Take a road trip to Victoria… and eat some barbecue.
From Explore Victoria.
Looking to get away for the weekend? Head to Victoria and give the Great Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail a try. The trail features some of the best rated barbecue in the country and was recently named one of the “10 Great American Food Trail Road Trips” by Frommer’s Travel Guide. If you like barbecue, this trail is definitely worth the drive.
The Coastal Texas BBQ Trail is comprised of eight barbecue establishments, located in and just outside of Victoria. Some of the BBQ joints have been around for years. A few have taken advantage of the recent food truck rage to showcase their skills. From sit down restaurants to food trucks, you’ll find the barbecue as varied as the pit masters who create it. All locally-owned establishments, most owners are the actual pit masters. And, they’re happy to feed you. Whether it’s the meat, the sides or homemade desserts, these folks put their heart and soul into making your experience an unforgettable one.
You won’t find just the typical barbecue dishes here. Many have special recipes with a certain culinary flair that you don’t often find while eating barbecue. The loaded chicken avocado plate, pit master sandwich, trucker special, crawfish tamales and the mesquite smoked burger are just a few. Not sure what to try, just ask and they’ll be glad to tell you!
While in Victoria, you can find plenty to keep busy – from kayaking the Guadalupe River through Riverside Park to exploring the rich history of Texas at the Museum of the Coastal Bend. Or, enjoy the diverse music scene. Trip ideas can be found at ExploreVictoriaTexas.com.
So, take a drive. Relax. Enjoy the town… and the barbecue. I think you’ll be impressed.
