Brisket was tender and delicious! Crispy, peppery bark. Sauce was watery but good

Ribs are the bomb today

Was unbelievable. Now the brisket was another story, it was chewy and bland. This place was always my favorite go to joint. The first place I went to eat upon arriving in Austin. The last 4 times over a six month period have been disappointing, seems like his heart is not into it.

Stopped Sunday Sept 7 at 11am. Out of beef ribs. I had the brisket, pork ribs, and sliced pork. Pork ribs were fantastic as was the sliced pork. The flavor and tenderness of the pork p

Loved that there was no wait unlike that other place on East 6th. Fatty brisket was as advertised. Pepper on crust was perfect. Jalapeño sausage was okay. Loved the cheesy squash - my new favorite side. No beef ribs today sadly. Drank the BBQ sauce too; very good stuff.

A nice outdoor space with a shack and a smoker, I loved the atmosphere. John comes across as gruff, but is hilarious. Brisket - the brisket was outstanding. Flaky soft and incredible smoky flavor with just the right crust of pepper and spices. Excellent. Beef rib - this this was ginormous. Thick meat with a heavy pepper crust. The rub adds great flavor, but was a bit too overpowering for me. Peeled it off and wowzers….a tremendously flavorful and moist rib awaited me. Pork ribs - to John’s credit he gave me these for free because it was the end of the rack. Great flavor, but not much meat to go along with the thick layer of fat. Definitely not a highlight for me. Sides - the cheesy squash was unique. Not great, but unique and worth a try Brisket was great, one of the best lean cuts I’ve had while the moist was overpowered with fat, as expected. Still good. Beef rib was huge and good. Overall I say B +

If there’s a dark prince of Texas barbecue, it’s probably John Mueller, the famously irascible, hugely talented, at times erratic master of meat who left his family’s legendary joint—Louie Mueller Barbecue, in Taylor—and set out on his own in 2001 with John Mueller’s B-B-Q, on Austin’s East Side. By 2003, that joint had acquired both a fanatical following and a spot on our top fifty list. The briskets were the best in town, and John…

You may remember last October when John Mueller was shut out of his well-regarded JMueller BBQ trailer on South First Street in Austin. He wasn’t happy about it, to say the least, but stayed quiet, plotting his return. That return will occur in just two weeks, and for smoked meat lovers everywhere, let’s hope it’s a triumphant one. Saturday, February 23rd will be the opening day of John Mueller Meat Co., and the trailer will be set…
