I heard this place was good but when I tried it I was let down. The ribs and brisket were tough.

Going downhill. Noon on weekday, dy, bitter smoke. 2 years ago was great. Today, not so much

Just average and expensive, was very disappointing. Save your money.

Extremely disappointing is all I can say. I fought extreme traffic leaving Houston to get there before closing time. I arrived at 5:55 and tried to place my order and was basically told "get out we are closed". At first I thought the man behind the counter was kidding as I explained I had nowhere to eat a to go order. He then proceeded to tell me I could eat outside in the dark on a cold bench sitting just outside the front door. WOW!!! I was speechless. I politely declined and drove away in disgust. I will never retirn!!!

It has made it onto countless “best of” lists when Texas BBQ is being discussed, and the church’s incredible story has been told in magazines and television. Needless to say, this was a must-see destination for myself, Smokemasterone, and Smokey D. The trip down to Huntsville flew by on a rainy Saturday morning, and…

For more than 30 years, holy smoke has wafted from ancient black pits in front of this rickety, low-slung hall next door to the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The provender that emerges from the glowing embers (mostly oak, with a little hickory and pecan mixed in) has funded congregational activities and created an East Texas legend. Was it just our imagination or were the ribs, brisket, chicken, and sausage even better than in the…
